Running in-depth, hands-on tests takes hundreds of hours and real money. To keep this site free for everyone and avoid intrusive adverts, I use referral links with a small handful of reputable services. This page explains how that works and how I keep it separate from what I recommend.

Referral links

Some links on this site are referral (affiliate) links. If you click one and then sign up or buy, the provider may pay me a commission or give me account credit. It never costs you anything extra.

At the moment I have referral links with:

• Fastmail
• Proton (Proton Mail, Proton Pass and related plans)
• StartMail
• Google Workspace

Wherever a post has a referral button, it says so right next to it. These links are also marked as sponsored for search engines.

My editorial rules

These rules are not negotiable:

• Commission never influences a review. I regularly review services that do not pay me a penny, and I will always point out the flaws and catches of services that do.
• No paid reviews or sponsored posts. Nobody can pay for a review, pay to be included or pay to remove a critical comment.
• Self-funded, real-world testing. Every service I review hands-on is tested with real emails and real domain names, and judged on security, privacy, reliability and how it works day to day.
• Complete transparency. Whenever a link earns me a small referral fee if you decide to buy, it says so right next to the button.
• I correct mistakes. Prices and features change. Posts show when they were last checked, and if you spot something out of date, please tell me.
