Passing the CBCI: The Final Hurdle (and a Reality Check)
After a strict online proctoring check and 90 minutes of high-stakes, scenario-based questions, I passed the CBCI exam. Here is an honest breakdown of the exam experience, the nuance behind the GPG 7.0 questions, and my next steps toward AMBCI membership.
After a quick 360° camera sweep of my room, desk, ceiling, and wrists for the proctor, I sat down to take the online exam. Today, I’m proud to say I passed and am officially recognised as a CBCI-qualified Business Continuity professional.
Looking back on the process, the test was noticeably more difficult than I anticipated. A few takeaways for anyone following this learning series or preparing for their own run:
- 90 Questions in 90 Minutes: The clock moves faster than you think. You have an average of one minute per question, which leaves very little room for overthinking or second-guessing yourself.
- Nuance over Memorisation: While a few questions were straightforward, many presented scenarios where multiple options felt correct. The real hurdle isn't just knowing the definitions—it’s applying the precise BCI Good Practice Guidelines (GPG 7.0) logic to determine which answer is most correct in context.
